Charlton have signed Leicester City defender Patrick McCarthy for an initial £650,000 fee.

The former Foxes captain has signed a four-year deal and is manager Alan Pardew's third signing in as many weeks, after strikers Chris Iwelumo and Luke Varney came to The Valley.

"We're very pleased to make Patrick our latest signing," Charlton chairman Richard Murray told the club's official website.

"He has all the right attributes and that fact he was captain of Leicester City shows he is a leader and proven at Championship level."
